Community Services

Sacramento Suburban also participates in the following community programs:

Kiwanis Family House

Sac Suburban Is a “Sustaining Club Member” of the Kiwanis Family House, providing more than $1200 annually (primarily for their food closet). Individual members also help with monetary donations in many ways such as on the “Big Day of Giving,” legacy and honorary donations, with needed merchandise items, etc. Our club also helps with close to $10,000 annually through the organization and operation of the Creelman-Francisco Golf Classic. In 2022, the club made an additional major donation to purchase seven new stoves and needed cookware for the kitchens.

Sierra-Arden Food Closet and River City Food Bank — Our club provides monthly monetary support and some hands-on service providing lunches.

American River Parkway Foundation — Our members help out at the annual A.R. Clean-up Day. Other volunteer opportunities are being planned.

Salvation Army — Our members volunteer annually to “ring the bell” with the Christmas Donation Kettle during the holiday season.

Wide Open Walls — This program promotes diversity through artistic expression by painting murals on public buildings, local schools, and community sites. Our members volunteer with the youth, providing both support and refreshments as they decorate the buildings and sites.

Opening Doors — Sacramento Suburban Kiwanis supports this vital program that is building an even stronger Northern California...for everyone. Opening Doors enriches communities by supporting immigrants, refugees, and survivors of trafficking on their path to stability, self-sufficiency, and belonging by providing clients with quality comprehensive services that are culturally appropriate and client-centered to help them build the life they deserve. Staff walks alongside their new neighbors and supports them to access stable housing, financial security, healthcare, and strong community connections. Opening Doors’ services are rooted in the principle that when immigrants, refugees, and survivors of human trafficking thrive, we all thrive.
